Financial Aid Appeal Video Transcript Cornell University offers aid on the basis of demonstrated financial need. The amount of financial aid you qualify for is based on the information you provide on your application materials. If you have extenuating circumstances that occur after you have applied for financial aid, you may submit a Financial Aid Appeal. The purpose of an appeal is to provide our office with new information that was not taken into consideration during your financial aid review. Reasons to appeal include: - Loss of income – such as if a parent becomes unemployed - An unexpected life event – such as the death of a parent or a natural disaster - You may also appeal if there was a significant error in the income or asset information you reported on your financial aid application Keep in mind, the change in circumstances must be significant in order to result in an adjustment to your financial aid award. The appeal application is on our website. You will need to submit documentation of the change in circumstances as well as a written explanation of the reason for your appeal. Please visit our website for additional information and contact our office if you have questions.
