Early Financial Aid Estimate for Recruited Athletes

Cornell is permitted to provide Early Financial Aid Estimates (EFAE) to recruited athletes, as approved by the Cornell Athletics department. If you intend to apply for need-based financial aid for the 2024-2025 academic year, please complete the EFAE application requirements listed below.

When completing applications for financial aid to Cornell, students must include income and asset information for both biological and/or adoptive parents. While your custodial parent (the parent you live with most) will need to complete the application process, we will also require your noncustodial parent to complete and submit the same requirements for their own household.

If the whereabouts of your noncustodial parent are unknown, or if you have extenuating circumstances regarding your situation, you may complete the Noncustodial Parent Waiver Petition and the aid office will review it to determine whether the information can be waived. Note that third-party supporting documentation may be requested. Refusal of your noncustodial parent to provide information or financial support does not constitute a waiver.

Requirements

  1. Complete the EFAE Application (online)
If your biological parents are divorced, separated or unmarried and living separately, each parent will need to complete their own online EFAE application, reporting income and asset information for their respective households only.
  2. 2022 Tax Information
    • U.S. Filers: submit a complete copy of your 2022 federal income tax return filed with the IRS (Form 1040). Be sure to include copies of your employer-issued wage statements (W2), all schedules and 1099s for both parents and the student (if applicable).
    • Canadian Filers: submit a full copy of your federal income tax return filed (T-1 General). Be sure to include schedules for both parents and the student (if applicable).
    • Foreign Tax Filers: submit copies of parents translated 2022 foreign tax returns. If your parent is not required to file a tax return, please provide translated copies of 2022 earnings from employer(s). This can be an annual statement of earnings from their employer. If your parent(s) did not work or earn any income for 2022, please have them submit a signed statement of non-filing.
  3. 2022 Business Tax Returns (if applicable)
    • Submit a complete copy of the federal income tax return(s) filed with the IRS for any businesses that your parents hold full or partial ownership in (IRS Forms 1120, 1120S, 1065). Be sure to include all schedules filed with the return.
  4. Written financial aid estimates you may have received from any other Ivy League Institution, Stanford, Duke or MIT
All documents should be submitted directly to the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment as part of your EFAE application using one of the following methods listed below:
Do not send documents via email or postal mail, as it is not a secure method of delivery. Documents submitted by email will not be processed. Questions regarding the Early Financial Aid Estimate process can be directed to the athletic liaison in the Office of Financial Aid:
