Renewal Fee Emergency Funds Application
Cornell’s Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment will provide grant support to students who face extenuating financial challenges filing the application renewal fee according to the procedures of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
These grants do not have to be repaid, and are only available to Cornell students who are filing for status renewal. Enrolled students and newly admitted Cornell students who have accepted the offer of admission for Fall ’21 matriculation are eligible. Emergency funds are available to each eligible student up to $495, to cover the cost of the renewal application, employment authorization, and biometric services.
Additional Funds are available to assist students towards transportation costs to the Syracuse, New York Field Support Office, if needed.
In order to be eligible for the renewal application fee emergency fund, Cornell students must meet all of the following criteria:
- Must be a currently enrolled Cornell University undergraduate, graduate, or professional degree student, or recently admitted to Cornell and have accepted the offer of admission for Fall ’21 matriculation and paid the Cornell enrollment deposit.

AVAILABILITY OF RENEWAL FEE EMERGENCY FUNDS
Approved emergency funds will be available to you within two (2) business days after the request has been processed. To receive these funds you should enroll in direct deposit with the Bursar’s Office. Your emergency funds will then be transferred via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) to your designated bank account. *NOTE: For newly admitted Cornell students who have accepted the offer of admission for Fall ’21 matriculation, please include your Date of Birth if you have not yet received your student ID and Cornell email address.
**Students will be provided up to an additional $150 to assist with transportation costs.
